In 2008, as a candidate for Elk Grove City Council, I partnered with members of the community to bring forth the proposal for the City of Elk Grove Youth Commission. The Elk Grove City council passed the proposal two weeks after it was introduced.
The youth commission enables all young people in our community, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
During my year as Mayor in 2011, I partnered with the youth commission on a series of workshops to address cyber bulling. From these workshops, we created an Anti-Bulling Ordinance for the City of Elk Grove that has now been adopted by the California League of Cities for each city to mirror Elk Grove in fighting bulling. I will continue to work with the youth here in Elk Grove on diversity issues and other challenges they face, including fostering youth development.
