What Is Small Business Revolution?
Small Business Revolution is organizing the potential political might ofCalifornia’s 3.5 million small business owners to elect in 2012 a state legislature that will get government out of the way of investment, job creation, and business management.
The World Is Changing
The slow rebound from the financial collapse is the result of a fundamental shakeup of the global economy as it transitions from the Industrial to the Information Age. Government in Sacramentois stubbornly resistant to facing what every small business owner has already understood: the world is changing and will not go back to the way it was.
If small businesses are the engines of economic recovery, as every politician from the President on down proclaims over and over again, then our political leadership should be focused like a laser beam on making sure that government does whatever is necessary to facilitate small business expansion, and do that right now.
Government Needs to Get with the Program
But talk is cheap. It will take bold action to change the myopic, fearful atmosphere inSacramento. Small business owners can rely on each other to do what is necessary to ensure that their values—hard work, thrift, attention to customers and employees, innovation, and commitment to community—frame lawmaking and the drafting of regulations.
Small Business Revolution asks one basic thing from each small business owner: a minimum of $10. With 3.5 million small business owners at work in California, that will create a political action committee with at least $35 million. This will allow us to throw our active support to candidates for the state legislature that agree to put the small business interest at the top of their agenda, starting in the first 100 days after taking office.
Small Business Revolution is non-partisan; we will support candidates of either party that get how vital it is for Californiathat our government focus on economic growth with the same enthusiasm, commitment, and refusal to give up that small business owners bring to their work every single day.
Why Now?
This year offers a unique opportunity to make this happen. Redistricting, term limits, open primaries, and the continued low levels of public approval for the waySacramentois conducting business mean that voters are more open to new faces and ideas than ever before.
Small Business Revolution is taking full advantage of this opportunity. Assembling a team of professionals, headed by CEO Marty Keller, who spent the last four years as the state’s Small Business Advocate, we are raising money, analyzing the new districts, working with the state’s small business organizations to develop support criteria, and putting boots on the ground in each race that appears winnable.
What Can You Do?
Small Business Revolution is raising a minimum of $10 from every small business owner to develop a $35 million war chest–enough to defeat even the most entrenched incumbents.
