What a beautiful ceremony for the East Elk Grove Cal Ripken Opening Day of the youth baseball season!  The weather was perfect to kick off the baseball season. The day started at 7 a.m., with the Elk Grove Lions Club cooking a pancake breakfast for over 3,000 people. 9 a.m. was the start of the Opening Ceremonies, with the introduction of four long-time supporters of youth sports in Elk Grove including Michelle Orrock from the CSD Board of Directors and Steve Detrick of the Elk Grove City Council.

Detrick addressed the crowd of over 1,000 players, 200 coaches and 3,000 friends and family there to support their sons and daughters. Detrick’s message was filled with encouragement to be the best that you can be and to set your dreams high to be whatever your passion may be! It may be a doctor, a lawyer or an athlete! Work hard to make that dream a reality!
